POSITION SUMMARY

The Assistant Vice President - Insurance Operations is responsible for leading the day-to-day operations of the insurance function, ensuring efficient, compliant, and client-focused service delivery. Reporting to the CEO, this role supports the execution of operational strategy, drives process improvements, and leads high-performing teams. The AVP – Insurance Operations plays a critical role in translating strategic priorities into operational outcomes while fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

The AVP – Insurance Operations champions best practices, effective operational planning, and timely decision-making, while creating a positive workplace environment for employees and promoting a culture of hard work, engagement, empowerment, and client service. The AVP - Insurance Operations understands “the big picture”, finding creative, strategic, and practical solutions to complex problems. This position provides direct oversight to OSBIE’s Claims, legal, and Insurance solutions teams, leads by example, and is results driven with a customer-centric mindset. The AVP – Insurance Solutions works closely with the Vice President - Finance & Administration.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Operational Leadership & Execution

·       Oversee core insurance operations, including policy administration, underwriting support,

reinsurance, claims coordination, loss control, and customer service.

·       Serve as a thought partner to the CEO and VP of Finance and Administration to implement operational strategies and initiatives

·       Ensure consistent, efficient, and high-quality service delivery across operational functions.

·       Collaborate on special projects with VP of Finance and Administration and the CEO.

People Leadership & Development

·       Lead, coach, and develop managers and operational teams to achieve performance goals.

·       Foster an inclusive, engaged, and high-performance team environment.

·       Support talent management, succession planning, and employee development initiatives. Process Improvement & Performance Management

·       Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and scalability.

·       Monitor and report on key performance indicators (KPIs), service levels, and operational metrics.

·       Support the development and maintenance of standardized procedures and best practices.

Client Experience

·       Ensure a positive and consistent client experience across operational touchpoints.

·       Address escalated service issues and implement solutions to improve satisfaction.

·       Partner with client-facing team to align operational delivery with client expectations.

Risk, Compliance & Governance

·       Ensure adherence to regulatory requirements, internal policies, and industry standards.

·       Support audits, compliance reviews, and risk mitigation activities.

·       Maintain strong internal controls and operational governance practices.

Technology & Continuous Improvement

·       Partner with IT and leadership to implement system enhancements and process automation.

·       Contribute to digital transformation initiatives and operational innovation.

·       Leverage data and reporting tools to inform decisions and improve outcomes.

Financial & Resource Management

·       Support budget management, resource planning, and cost optimization efforts.

·       Monitor operational expenses and identify opportunities for efficiency gains.

QUALIFICATIONS

·       Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Operations Management, or a related field required

·       CIP and/or FCIP designation preferred

·       12+ years of progressive experience in insurance operations in a fast-paced organization including commercial insurance, mutuals, or a reciprocal.

·       7+ years leadership and people management skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with employees and stakeholders at all levels across functional areas, influencing and holding accountable as appropriate.

·       Demonstrated experience in driving operational excellence and achieving business objectives.

·       Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities, with a focus on innovation and continuous improvement.

·       Strong analytical and decision-making skills, with a data-driven approach to problem-solving.

·       Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.

·       Financial acumen with experience managing budgets, forecasting, and resource planning.

·       Able to travel periodically, primarily to support quarterly Board meetings and member conference sponsorship events.

Salary Information

Compensation for the successful candidate will be determined by our client and may vary based on several factors, including local market conditions, geographic location, and job-related qualifications such as knowledge, skills, experience, education, and credentials.

Expected salary range: $185,000.00 – $195,000.00 annually.
