The Opportunity

Our client, a growing specialty insurance organization, is seeking an experienced claims professional to support the development and management of a complex claims portfolio across multiple professional and management liability lines.

This role is ideal for a technically strong claims specialist who enjoys handling sophisticated claims matters, collaborating with external experts, and delivering exceptional service to insureds, brokers, and business partners. The successful candidate will manage claims from initial notification through resolution while contributing to claims strategy, portfolio insights, and product improvement initiatives.

The position offers exposure to a diverse range of specialty risks, including professional liability, management liability, cyber-related matters, and other complex financial lines claims.

Key Responsibilities

Claims Management

  • Manage a portfolio of specialty claims from first notice through investigation, negotiation, and resolution.
  • Analyze policy coverage and liability issues to determine appropriate claims handling strategies.
  • Establish and maintain accurate reserves throughout the claims lifecycle.
  • Identify recovery opportunities and pursue subrogation or contribution where appropriate.
  • Ensure claims are handled efficiently, fairly, and in accordance with applicable regulations and internal standards.

Stakeholder & Client Management

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with insureds, brokers, legal counsel, consultants, and other stakeholders.
  • Provide timely communication regarding claim developments, coverage positions, and resolution strategies.
  • Deliver a high standard of client service during sensitive and complex claims situations.
  • Act as a trusted resource for internal and external stakeholders.

Vendor & Incident Coordination

  • Coordinate and manage external service providers, including legal, forensic, investigative, and consulting resources.
  • Monitor vendor performance to ensure quality service and cost-effective outcomes.
  • Support claims response activities involving multiple stakeholders and competing priorities.
  • Ensure appropriate escalation and management of complex matters when required.

Technical & Strategic Contributions

  • Monitor claims trends and provide insights to underwriting, product development, and leadership teams.
  • Contribute to policy wording reviews and product enhancement discussions.
  • Assist in developing best practices, claims procedures, and operational improvements.
  • Prepare reports and management information related to claims activity and portfolio performance.

Operational Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate electronic claim files and documentation.
  • Support payment processing, reserve management, and claims reporting activities.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory, legal, and organizational requirements.
  • Prioritize workload effectively while managing deadlines and time-sensitive matters.

Qualifications

Required

  • Minimum three years of claims handling experience within insurance, specialty insurance, professional liability, financial lines, cyber, or related areas.
  • Strong understanding of insurance policy interpretation and coverage analysis.
  • Experience working with legal counsel, consultants, and external claims service providers.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder-management skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple complex files simultaneously.

Preferred

  • Experience handling professional liability, management liability, cyber, financial lines, or technology-related claims.
  • Claims adjusting license or ability to obtain and maintain required licensing.
  • Experience managing cross-border or multi-jurisdictional claims matters.
  • University degree or equivalent professional experience.
  • Legal education or legal industry experience considered an asset.

Salary Information

Compensation for the successful candidate will be determined by our client and may vary based on several factors, including local market conditions, geographic location, and job-related qualifications such as knowledge, skills, experience, education, and credentials.

Expected salary range: $150,000.00 – $170,000.00 annually.
