Underwriting Governance Specialist

The Opportunity

Our client, a leading organization within the insurance industry, is seeking an experienced Underwriting Governance Specialist to join its underwriting team. This role is responsible for supporting underwriting governance, compliance, quality assurance, and monitoring activities to ensure underwriting operations align with internal standards, risk management objectives, and regulatory requirements.

The successful candidate will collaborate closely with underwriting leadership, operational teams, compliance stakeholders, and business partners to identify control gaps, support remediation efforts, and maintain effective governance frameworks.

Key Responsibilities

‍

Underwriting Governance & Quality Assurance

‍

• Coordinate and manage quarterly underwriting quality assurance activities, including reviewer assignments, workload balancing, completion tracking, and follow-up activities.
• Monitor quality assurance results and ensure corrective actions are completed within established timelines.
• Support underwriting monitoring and supervisory programs, including operational risk management reviews and reporting.
• Assist with the identification, investigation, escalation, and remediation of underwriting and operational control deficiencies.

Compliance & Risk Management

‍

• Support adherence to legal, regulatory, and internal underwriting requirements, escalating concerns as appropriate.
• Work with business and control owners to validate remediation plans and confirm timely implementation of corrective actions.
• Maintain compliance records, monitoring logs, and governance documentation.
• Promote a strong risk and compliance culture through ongoing monitoring, reporting, and stakeholder engagement.

Documentation & Reporting

‍

• Maintain underwriting procedures, guidelines, governance documentation, and delegated authority records.
• Support the development and distribution of underwriting communications, updates, and internal publications.
• Maintain reporting tools, trackers, logs, and governance records to support oversight activities.
• Assist in preparing management reports and tracking key governance deliverables.

Stakeholder Collaboration

‍

• Build effective working relationships with underwriting, compliance, legal, risk management, reinsurance, and operational teams.
• Participate in governance initiatives and contribute to continuous improvement efforts across underwriting operations.
• Stay informed of industry trends, regulatory developments, and emerging risks impacting underwriting activities.

Additional Responsibilities

• Support special projects and initiatives as required.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

‍

• Post-secondary education in Business, Finance, Risk Management, Insurance, Law, or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Experience in underwriting, underwriting operations, governance, compliance, risk management, or a related control function within the insurance or financial services industry.
• Strong understanding of underwriting processes, governance frameworks, quality assurance practices, and regulatory requirements.
• Excellent communication, relationship-building, and stakeholder management skills.
• Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and experience maintaining reporting tools, tracking logs, and governance documentation.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively within a fast-paced environment.

Salary Information

‍

Compensation for the successful candidate will be determined by our client and may vary based on several factors, including local market conditions, geographic location, and job-related qualifications such as knowledge, skills, experience, education, and credentials.

‍

Expected salary range: $80,000.00 – $100,000.00 annually.
